Temporary Darkness

“We are not led out of life’s dark experiences: we are led through them. But the end is the victory that is all the more real because it has really been one. Our Lord reveals Himself as One Who in our nature meets our experience, wins the victory, and presents to the Father the untainted humanity which is our worship and our prayer.” Fr. Andrew, from Christ the Companion

It’s easy to get lost when there is no light. I would need multiple hands to count how many times I’ve hit my head on our bedroom door in the morning because of the darkness in the room. Darkness can feel empty, as if no matter where you turn, things are hollow. With no light, there is no escape.

John 8:12 says, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won

’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

Brothers and sisters, Jesus is light of the world. He leads us out of darkness, holding our hand so that no matter the depth of that darkness, it will end. No matter the uncertainty, no matter the anxiety, no matter the disruptions or brokenness we face, darkness is not our call. Darkness is not our end. Light and life is our destiny, our eternity. Light and life is God’s promise to us, thanks be to God!

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. May the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, keep you safe and make you strong, this night and always. Amen.
